Streamageddon is here: Tomorrow, Netflix will lose nearly 2,000 movies on its streaming service after deals with Warner, MGM and Universal lapse. Warner is moving its movies to its own streaming service that costs $10 a month. By the end of May, movies and TV shows under the CBS-Viacom umbrella may also go away. [More at Mashable]

One would think the movie industry would have learned from the example of the music industry nearly cutting their own throats over distribution rights (and putting the power over digital music in Steve Jobs’s hands).

And yet, one should never overlook the overwhelming avarice lurking behind every ridiculous move that mass media giants make in an effort to squeeze a few more bucks from their customers.

I agree with this dude. I am only paying for ONE service. And its Netflix. If you want me to subscribe to your new service you better be offering something unique, like letting me watch new episodes live while they’re being broadcasted on tv.

It would be hilarious if this whole debacle made movie rental stores popular again, man I miss movie rental places, hardcore nostalgia.

Well the thing is: the studios are idiots if they think that they can all have their own streaming service. Like I’m going to pay $70 a month in streaming-at ten bucks a studio. No. You’re stupid, and you’re being greedy-and you’re going to fuck up a good thing for everyone.

Like Silas216 said: you think they would learn that you can’t control how the customers want their media. When they show you the new paradigm that’s pretty much it. The studios demand to give us the content on their terms and they’ll regret it.

You know who deserves to profit from this? Netflix, cause they gave us the awesomeness that is streaming. And the studios should just shut the fuck up, support the system, and accept the money they get from the streaming contracts. CBS had one of their highest profits last year-and attributed a lot of this to the money they got from streaming. Which mainly involved licensing old TV shows that were just sitting in a vault.

This is a win for everyone. But the studios get angry because they don’t innovate, they hold on to content delivery methods from thirty years ago, and then they resent someone else who does. Don’t screw this up Warner brothers.

While most people think of the stereotypical Indian look or sound when they think of people from India, it is not uncommon to find people that look and sound completely British with Indian sounding names. Just because Benedict Cumberbatch is not what you expected, doesn’t mean that he isn’t right for the role.

Now, I haven’t seen the new Star Trek movie yet, so I can’t say how good he was or wasn’t in it, but don’t say he didn’t belong in the role because of the way he looks. It’s just as bad as saying someone didn’t get the role because they weren’t white. He is a fine actor, and probably got the role because he was the best for it. President Barack Obama announced on Monday (May 20) that Ride will be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedomat the White House later this year. NASA further paid tribute to the late astronaut by creating a new internship program in her name and renaming a science instrument on board the International Space Station.

Ride, who after flying in space twice went on to become a leading advocate for science education, died on July 23, 2012, 17 months after she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She was 61.
